Women?s Soccer Pulls Away From Saint Martin?s, 4-0

The 19th-ranked Seattle University women's soccer team scored early, did not allow a shot on goal by Saint Martin's, and then scored three times in the second half to pull away with a 4-0 victory Friday afternoon in a GNAC match at Championship Field.

The 19th-ranked Seattle University women’s soccer team scored early, did not allow a shot on goal by Saint Martin’s, and then scored three times in the second half to pull away with a 4-0 victory Friday afternoon in a GNAC match at Championship Field.

In the first minute, Mickey Pelland (, ) sent a pass forward that found Kara Kuttler (). Kuttler’s advance forced goalie Breanna Klasen to come out of the net, and Kuttler chipped a shot over Klasen’s head that bounced into the net to give its first goal just 31 seconds into the contest.

Klasen and her teammates combined for five saves in the first half, including a couple of saves on point-blank shots by Leah Wymer (). Seattle scored three goals midway through the second half, all on similar plays in which a member of the Redhawk defense sends a long pass through to a streaking forward who gets behind the Saint defense and sends a shot into the net.

With 28 minutes remaining in the match, Maria Madeira () found Wymer, who slid a shot past Klasen for her eighth goal of the season. At the 64:41 mark, earned her second assist of the match, this time setting up Kuttler for her second goal in the afternoon. Ten minutes later, seniors Pelland and Wymer connected to close the scoring.

Klasen finished the match with seven saves for ’s (1-5, 0-1 GNAC), playing in its first-ever conference match as a varsity squad. Kaitlyn Jackson () earned her fifth shutout of the season without needing to make a save.
