Women's Soccer Moves Up In National Rankings

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Seattle University women's soccer team moves up from 19th to 17th in the national rankings and maintains its ranking of third in the Far West rankings, released Tuesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The women's soccer team has used defense as a catalyst to its 7-1-1 start. The team is presently sixth in shutout percentage (0.78), seventh in lowest goals against average (0.325), and 28th in Division II in save percentage (0.857). Individually, Kaitlyn Jackson (Kent, Wash.) is tenth in Division II in lowest goals against average with a 0.349 GAA.

Offensively, Ashley Porter (Redmond, Wash.) is fifth in Division II in assists with 0.89 assists per game, while Cassy Smith (Prosser, Wash.) places 16th with 0.78 assists per game. The Redhawks have outscored their opponents, 23-3, including a present streak of four consecutive shutouts.

The women's team hosts Western Oregon in a GNAC match on Sunday, September 24, at 1 p.m., also at Championship Field.
