Now in the fourth year of his second tour of duty at Seattle University, Hue Ong has proven to be an important asset to the SU volleyball program. He brings several years of collegiate and club coaching experience to a diverse staff and has helped bring about immediate results both on the court and in recruiting.
Ong is presently the program director for the Sudden Impact Volleyball Club as well as the head coach of the U18 squad. He has previously served as head coach of the Sudden Impact U14, U16, and U17 teams as well as the U16 head coach for the King County and the Alps Club Eastside club teams.
Ong first served as an assistant under Steve Nimocks from 2000 to 2003, helping the team improve from 4-23 in 2000 to 22-7 in 2002 to 17-9 in 2003, which included a second place finish in the GNAC and the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance. Ong then moved on to Northwest University, which was the top-ranked team regionally and a national NAIA power, before coming back to Seattle University. Ong also volunteered as a coach at Eastside Catholic High School for three years.
Originally from Vietnam, Ong made it to the United States in 1979, first landing in New Jersey before moving west. He earned a degree from South Seattle Community College in 1990.
