head volleyball coach Shannon Ellis has announced that Teron Uy, a former assistant coach at the of and the of , has been hired as an assistant volleyball coach at , effective later this spring.

Uy has been an assistant volleyball coach at for the past three seasons, helping the Cowgirls improve both their team defense and their team hitting efficiency. He also served as administrator of the summer camps and assisted in scouting opponents, evaluating technology requirements, and recruiting.

Before heading to , Uy spent three years at the under head coach Jim McLaughlin in several roles and several years working under former UW coach Bill Neville as a volunteer. He also spent three years at under former coach Steve Nimocks from 2001 to 2003, helping the squad to a program-best 22 victories in the 2002 season.

“Teron is incredibly knowledgeable. He has worked with teams during their growing stages and has coached at the highest levels of collegiate volleyball. He brings tremendous passion for the game and a very technical eye. Teron is the perfect compliment to our staff as we prepare to tackle new challenges in the coming years,” said Ellis.

A graduate of , Uy was the co-founder of the Sudden Impact volleyball club and served as its technical director from 1998 to 2005. He was the head coach at Skyline High School in 1999 and 2000, earning Eastside Coach of the Year honors in 2000 as he led the team to a seventh place finish in the state.

Uy joins Hue Ong as assistant coaches under Ellis for the 2008 season. Jonathan Killingbeck will also stay on staff as director of volleyball operations. The volleyball team will play mostly Division I schools during the 2008 season, with the home opener coming Tuesday, Sept. 2, against .

is a private, Jesuit institution with a total enrollment of over 7,500 students located in the First Hill section of The athletic department is beginning the reclassification process of moving to NCAA Division I status.
