Brandon Mitalas begins his first season with the Seattle University women’s soccer program in the fall of 2016.
He comes to SU after serving as the men's soccer Head Coach at Edmonds Community College from 2009-2014. While at the helm of Tritons' men’s soccer, Mitalas lead Edmonds CC to become one of the elite junior college programs in the western United States. Mitalas’ teams qualified for the NWAC playoffs in each of his six years, during that time the Tritons won three NWAC North Regional Championships (2011, 2012, 2014) and appeared in the NWAC Final Four twice (2012 and 2014). During his tenure, Mitalas was voted NWAC North Coach of the year twice and selected to coach the NWAC All-Star team four times, he also coached the 2012 NWAC North Region Player of the Year, Zak Naylor who went on to play at Concordia University.
On the youth side, Mitalas has coached for a number of prestigious clubs including Washington Rush, Seattle United and FC Alliance before merging with Northwest Nationals to become the newly formed Greater Seattle Surf Soccer Club.
Mitalas began his coaching career in 2007 with the Seattle Sounders' women’s team after a successful playing career as a goalkeeper. While playing for Northwest Nationals Soccer Club as a youth, Mitalas was the goalkeeper for a team called Nemesis Nationals, a group that won three consecutive Washington State Championships and earned a top 20 national ranking. Mitalas also had a very successful career at Shorecrest High School where he was selected as a first team All-Conference and All-Area goalkeeper in each of his three Varsity seasons.
Mitalas was a member of the Washington State U23 team for five years and was rostered with the Seattle Sounders Select (Reserve Team) in 2001 when they advanced to the Quarterfinal round of the US Open Cup.
Mitalas played his freshman year of college soccer at Seattle Pacific University before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Following a deployment to the Middle East in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Mitalas transferred to Warner Pacific College in Portland, Ore., where he finished his college career and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration in 2008.
