CORVALLIS, Ore. - Seattle University volleyball (2-4) exited the final day of the ASICS Invitational, falling to host Oregon State 3-0 (10-25, 18-25, 9-25) inside Gill Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Adee Butler led the team with six kills, while tacking on an ace and picking up two digs. Sophomore Chloee Leslie added four kills, one block and one dig.

Freshman Janae Demant led the team from the service line, recording three aces, while also maintaining the floor on the defensive end, pacing the team with 10 digs. Sophomore Lexi Jones paced Seattle U’s block with three and freshman Orinayo Olukanmi aided with two blocks.

The Redhawks combined for five aces, 30 digs and four blocks on the afternoon.

Oregon State opened the match aggressively from the service line, a point that would define the duration of the match. The Redhawks trailed 9-1 before pivoting midway through with a 4-0 run. Olukanmi kicked off the surge with a kill, sending Demant to the line. Demant logged an ace before Olukanmi and Butler went back to back with kills to pull the Redhawks within seven, 16-9. The Beavers swung back with a 9-1 run to secure set one 25-10.

Seattle U jumped out to an early second set lead, opening up ahead 4-2 with a pair of aces from Demant and a kill from Butler. Oregon State came back to level the set 4-all before the two teams exchanged two more ties. The Beavers pushed ahead 16-9, deterring the Redhawk offense from stringing together runs. Trailing by eight, the Redhawks worked their way back with a 4-0 run to force an Oregon State timeout down 18-22. Following the break, the Beavers locked up the second set 25-18 to take the two set lead.

The Redhawks came back with an early third set lead before Oregon State went ahead 5-9. The Beavers strung together a series of runs through the remainder of the match to defeat Seattle U in the final set 25-9.

Seattle U returns to action next week when it hosts Southern Utah at the Redhawk Center on September 11.
