MISHIMA, Japan - The Seattle University men's golf team wrapped up their first-ever international tournament last night, finishing fifth out of 14 teams across five countries with a score of +8 over, 860 at the Pan Pacific University Golf Super League Tournament.

The irrefutable star of the show for the team was freshman Elliot Ro, who exploded into collegiate competition with a fourth place individual finish while carding -9 under, 204. Ro improved with every round, shooting -2 under on day one, -3 under on day two, and finishing with a strong round of -4 under, 204 to end the competition, his final score only two strokes behind the victor.

"I was really impressed with Elliot," said head coach Marc Chandonnet, "To shoot 69-68-67 in his first collegiate event says a lot about his game and how comfortable he was competing at this level."

Sophomore Jacob Kang also had a solid tournament, finishing just outside the top 25 at a tie for 27th with +1 over, 214 and a best round of -3 under, 68 on day two.

Senior Kevin Li finished right behind him, carding +3 over, 215 for 33rd place, and Conrad Chisman came in 84th with +14 over, 227.

"Overall, this was a really solid start to our season," said Chandonnet. "We played some really good golf over the three days, and there are certainly a lot of positives we can take away from it, but we also know there's plenty for us to build on.

"Conrad wasn't feeling well for much of the tournament, but he battled through it and gave us a solid third round when we really needed him, especially after Burly Hildreth became sick and wasn't able to play the final two rounds. I was so proud of the way our guys handled adversity and kepy competing."

The Redhawks next take action September 10-11 at the Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo.
