SEATTLE — Seattle University women’s soccer earned a 2-0 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday at Championship Field, closing out non-conference play with a strong performance.
Katie Piburn provided all the scoring for the Redhawks, finding the back of the net twice in the opening half. Piburn opened the scoring in the 27th minute, putting Seattle U ahead 1-0 with her first goal of the season. It was the senior’s first goal since her freshman season.
The Redhawks doubled their advantage in the 41st minute when Piburn struck again, this time with an assist from Sofia Deremiah. Seattle U carried the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Seattle U continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, finishing the match with a 20-9 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks. The Redhawks also held 61 percent of possession.
Goalkeeper Kassidy Kirgan recorded the shutout, making three saves across 90 minutes. It was the second win and shutout of the season for Kirgan.
With the win, Seattle U improved to 6-3-2 on the season and closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule. The Redhawks will open West Coast Conference play next week when they host San Francisco on Saturday, Sept. 26.
