SEATTLE - Seattle University volleyball (2-4) looks to build upon a strong start at home, hosting former WAC conference mate Southern Utah (0-6) at the Redhawk Center on Friday, September 11 at 6 PM.
Senior Teagan Melton leads the team with 54 kills through five matches, ranking 17th in the WCC in kills. The right side hitter averages a team leading 2.84 kills per set, a mark that ranks 14th in the conference. Melton paces the Redhawks with a .315 hitting percentage on 111 attacks.
Aiding Melton is fellow senior Adee Butler, who posts 2.29 kills per set for 48 in six matches on the season. Freshman Chloee Leslie rounds out the conference’s top-25 with 2.1 kills per set for 44 kills this season.
Junior Grace Jones orchestrates the offense, combining for 82 assists on the year, averaging 3.73 assists per set. Sophomore Bella Jones ranks top-15 alongside Grace, recording 65 assists in five matches this season. Bella ranks first on the team, averaging 4.06 assists per set.
Junior Hailey McEllrath guides the program from the service line, ranking tied-ninth in the WCC with seven aces. Freshmen Janae Demant and Elaina Duong follow suit with six aces apiece, ranking top-15 in the conference in aces.
Demant controls the defense, with 68 digs to rank tenth in the WCC. Leading up front is middle blocker sophomore Lexi Jones, who paces the team with 27 blocks. Jones matched her career best over the weekend against California Baptist, securing 9.0 total blocks. Her 1.29 blocks per set also ranks third in the WCC so far this season.
As a team, Seattle U ranks fourth in the conference in blocks with 47 in six matches. The Redhawks have 16 solo blocks which ties Saint Mary’s for first in the WCC. They also rank in the upper half from the service line, combining for 31 aces, averaging 1.41 aces per set.
Southern Utah and Seattle U meet for the sixth time in program history, dating back to the start of the series in 2022. The Redhawks lead the series 3-2, posting a 1-1 record against the Thunderbirds in their final season in the WAC. SU holds a 2-0 record against Southern Utah at home.
Following the match, the Redhawks head back out on the road for their final tournament before conference play, meeting up with Gonzaga, Montana and North Dakota State in Spokane. Southern Utah will remain in Seattle through Saturday, taking on Washington State on Saturday at the Redhawk Center at 2 PM.
