PULLMAN, WA - Behind standout performances from Royce Hale and Jared Stevenson, Seattle U baseball won a thriller over Washington State, 12-11, Tuesday afternoon on the Palouse.
“Big offensive day for us to get some momentum going into the Gonzaga series," Head Coach Donny Harrel said. "Hale was unbelievable with seven runs batted in and the game winning HR. Hallam was good out front, then the bridge part of our pen could not get outs in the 6th, but Stone really stepped up to hold the game tied for us to allow Hale to get the big knock.”
Hale (3-for-5) tied a program record with seven RBI while Stevenson (4-for-5) was a home run shy of the cycle as the Redhawks exploded for 12 runs on 11 hits.

Seattle U jumped out to a controlling 8-0 lead through the first four innings of play, but saw the hosts score 10 runs over the next three as the two sides went to the 8th all knotted up. After Tyler Horner reached on an error to start the frame, Hale would launch his 5th home run of the season to put SU back in front.
After being called on to pitch out of a jam in the 8th, Blake Smith would be looked on to finish off the game in the 9th. The Cougars would score one, but a pop up to shallow center field was corralled by Kenneth Rhein to end the game and give Smith his 3rd save of the season.
"Hallam was good out front, then the bridge part of our pen could not get outs in the 6th," Harrel added. "Stone really stepped up to hold the game tied for us to allow Hale to get the big knock.”
The victory moves the Redhawks to 18-28 on the year as they split the season series with WSU. They will look to carry the momentum into the pivotal final series of the conference season, as they open a 3-game set with Gonzaga starting on Thursday.
