Softball Homestand Extends with Three Games Against LMU

SEATTLE - Seattle University softball (18-21, 4-2 WCC) returns to Logan Field for the second straight weekend, hosting LMU (21-15, 2-4 WCC) for a three game conference series from Friday, April 17 through Sunday, April 19. All contests are streamed on ESPN+.

SEATTLE - Seattle University softball (18-21, 4-2 WCC) returns to Logan Field for the second straight weekend, hosting LMU (21-15, 2-4 WCC) for a three game conference series from Friday, April 17 through Sunday, April 19. All contests are streamed on ESPN+.

Junior Avari Morris paces the team and the WCC with a .441 batting average, a mark that ranks 56th in the nation. Morris has recorded 60 hits on the season, ranking tied 32nd in the country. She sits six hits away from cracking the top-10 for hits in a single season while currently holding a four game hitting streak. Morris is also leading the conference in runs scored with 38.

Morris poses a dual threat for the Redhawks, leading the team to four wins in the circle. She has tossed 67.0 innings on the season, ranking 13th in the WCC. She has struck out 58 on the year, a mark that ranks sixth in the league. While splitting time defensively between the pitching circle and patrolling left field, Morris has accounted for 55 putouts on the season.

Senior Taylor Fitch is also batting above .400 this year, holding a .402 batting average through 122 at bats. She has tallied 49 hits, including 12 home runs, while accounting for 47 RBI on the year. Fitch ranks top-five in the conference across all aforementioned metrics, ranking tied 48th in the country in RBIs. Fitch is also fourth in the WCC in runs scored with 35. 

Senior Ava Sin and graduate Jay Ross add to SU’s potent offense, with Sin batting .350 and Ross .317 on the year. Sin ranks top-five alongside Fitch in RBIs with 38 while ranking tied for first in the league with 14 doubles. Sin has 41 hits on the year while Ross sits just behind with 40 in her debut season in Seattle. 

Guiding the defense is reigning WCC pitcher of the week Kaia Galaviz. Galaviz has appeared in 18 contests in her first year, leading the Redhawks to a team leading six wins. She has pitched 59.0 innings while lowering her ERA to 3.20 after holding Saint Mary’s to two hits and no runs in eight innings of work over the past weekend. Galaviz has cracked the top-10 in the conference in strikeouts, handing out 44 this year.

Aiding the Redhawk pitching effort is junior Berkley Vance. Vance leads the team with 85.0 innings pitched while ranking second on the team in strikeouts with 49. 

Junior Karen Spadafora leads the defense with 164 putouts this season, a mark that ranks fourth in the WCC. Ross also ranks top-10 in the league in putouts with 146 at first base. 

The Redhawks lead the conference in hits with 352, which ranks tied 57th in the country. They sit 52nd in the nation with a WCC leading .322 batting average. SU leads the league with 222 RBI, pacing second by 24 RBI. The Redhawks affinity for doubles ranks them first in the WCC with 70, while their 1.79 doubles per game ranks 28th in the nation. SU also paces the conference in runs with 234 while ranking second in the league in homers with 39.

Seattle U and LMU meet for the first time since 2023 after starting the series in 2009. The Lions lead the Redhawks nine contests to four, taking the most recent meeting in 2023. The pair meet for the first time in program history in Seattle. LMU has hosted the Redhawks six times, holding a 5-1 record in those contests.

The Lions sit sixth in the conference standings with a 2-4 record in league play, taking wins from both San Diego and Santa Clara. They play their first series since the first weekend of April and play their first game since April 8. LMU is 3-6 in road games on the year.

Saturday will be Bark in the Park, with an array of giveaways available for SU’s four legged furry fans. Collapsible water bowls, dog tags and bandanas are available on a first come, first serve basis. Waiver forms are available in venue.

Following the weekend, the Redhawks travel to Oregon State before returning to Logan Field for the final time in conference, hosting Santa Clara for their senior weekend.
