SEATTLE — The Seattle U track and field team will split its squad for another two-meet weekend.

The Redhawks will compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational, held from April 16-18 in Azusa, Calif., as well as the Larry Byerly Invitational, held April 17-18 in Portland, Ore.

The Brian Clay Invitational has become a yearly staple for Seattle U, which has competed in the event every year since 2022. The Redhawks will look to build on their success from last season, when they recorded five all-time Seattle U top-10 marks. The meet was highlighted by Alex Jensen setting the school record in the 800m, a mark that still stands.

Current Redhawks Seku Sanders and Annabelle Clapp also turned in strong performances in the meet. Sanders set personal-bests in the 800m and 1500m, while Clapp set a personal-best in the 800m.

Seattle U is also familiar with the Larry Byerly Invitational, having competed in the meet in 2025. Matthew Fiso headlined last year’s performance, shattering the triple jump school record by nearly half a meter (14.28m). He will look to challenge that mark again after posting a 14.11m triple jump earlier this month at the Whitworth Peace Meet.

In total, 14 total personal bests were set by Seattle U student athletes at the 2025 Larry Byerly Invitational, including 13 by current Redhawks, making Portland fertile grounds for more PR’s this weekend.

The Redhawks will aim to carry momentum from their previous split-squad weekend on April 3-4, when they combined for 13 personal bests across the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane, Wash., and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco. The weekend was highlighted by Dan Barreto’s 9:47.16 steeplechase time, ranking 10th in school history.

The Bryan Clay Invitational will begin its events at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Apr. 16, while the Larry Byerly Invitational will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 17.
