SEATTLE — The Seattle U track and field team will split the squad for a two-meet weekend.

A group of Redhawks will head to the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco from Apr. 3-4, while the other half of the team will remain in-state to compete in the Whitworth Peace Meet, held on Apr. 3 in Spokane, Wash.

The Mike Fanelli Track Classic, a distance-focused meet hosted by San Francisco State University, has become a yearly staple for Seattle U. The Redhawks have competed in the event every year since 2023.

During last year’s trip to the Bay Area, Seattle U recorded 10 new top-10 times across a split competition between the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and the Stanford Invitational.

This year’s meet will give the Redhawks’ distance runners another opportunity to climb the school’s all-time records list.

On the women’s side, Annabelle Clapp holds the seventh-fastest 400m time (58.04), and the fourth-best 800m time (2:12.92) in school history. Azalea Groleau owns the school record in the 5000m (16:46.75), along with the second-fastest 3000m time (9:59.96), and third-fastest 1500m time (4:30.34).

On the men’s side, Porter Buck will look to improve upon his ninth-best steeplechase time in Seattle U history (9:41.79), set at last month’s OSU PNW Invite. Roman Radecki aims to enter the track record books after running the 12th best men’s 8k in school history during last fall’s cross country season.

Several records are also within reach at the Whitworth Peace Meet.

On the women’s side, Zoe Tibbo ranks third in the long jump (5.67m), and sixth in the triple jump (11.56m) in school history. Lydia Dale recorded the seventh-best steeplechase in school history last month (11:44.81).

On the men’s side, Seku Sanders (1:50.78) and Osaze Demund (1:51.60) hold the second and third-fastest 800m times in school history. Matthew Fiso is the school’s record holder in the triple jump (14.28m), and JR Zamora holds the second-best triple jump (6.76m).

The Mike Fanelli Track Classic is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., with the Whitworth Peace Meet set for 9:55 a.m.
