SEATTLE — Last week saw a first-place individual finish in the Seattle U track and field team’s first meet of the outdoor season.
Zoe Tibbo stood alone with a 10.75m long jump – the best distance among a field of 14 competitors.
This week provides another opportunity for the Redhawks to excel at the PLU Open, hosted by Pacific Lutheran University from March 13-14 in Tacoma, Wash.
It’s the second consecutive year Seattle U will compete at the PLU Open; last year, five new all-time top ten school records were set at the event – all of which were recorded by current Redhawk student athletes including Rachel Albright, Zachary Schriner, Jackson Jarrett, Rock Gignac, and Hoku Matsushima.
At that meet, 10 personal bests were set by the Redhawks, including a personal best in the 1500-meter race by current Redhawk Sierra Swart, and wind-aided personal bests by current Redhawks JR Zamora (400m) and Sean Ellison (100m).
This time around, the Redhawks will look to build off last week’s performance at the Ed Boitano Invitational. Tibbo competed in the triple jump, long jump, and 200-meter dash. Isabella Bass ran the 100-meter dash, and Kaylyn Huynh ran the 400-meter race, while Mila Tsai and Jordan White ran the 1500-meter race.
On the men’s side, Zachary Schriner and Jackson Jarrett competed in the javelin throw. Nate Thomas competed in the long jump, triple jump, and 200-meter dash.
The PLU Open will begin with the first event at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, with events taking place through 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14.
