TACOMA, Wash. — The Seattle U track and field team sprang back into outdoor competition at the Ed Boitano Invitational from March 6-7.
Zoe Tibbo didn’t need a tune-up.
Tibbo cleared the field in the triple jump with a 10.75m distance, finishing first in a field of 14 competitors. That wasn’t all; Tibbo also finished fifth in the long jump with a 10.75m jump, and ran the 200-meter dash in 27.65 seconds.
Tibbo, who holds the third-best long jump (5.67m) and sixth-best triple jump (11.56m) in Seattle U history, showed midseason form after competing in three events unattached during the winter indoor season.
Tibbo wasn’t the only Redhawk to start the outdoor season off strong. Rachel Albright recorded a 38.01m throw in Friday’s hammer throw – approaching her personal best of 39.04m – the sixth-best hammer throw in school history.
Also on the women’s side, Isabella Bass ran the 100-meter dash in 13.61 seconds, while Kaylyn Huynh ran the 400-meter race in 107.64 seconds in her first collegiate race at the distance.
In the distance events, Mila Tsai and Jordan White represented the Redhawks in the 1500 meters. Tsai ran a 5:06.75, white White ran a 5:09.53.
On the men’s side, Zachary Schriner and Jackson Jarrett competed in the javelin throw. Jarrett recorded a 40.94m throw, approaching his personal-best of 41.90m. Schriner recorded a 46.41m throw, finishing 11th in a field of 24 throwers and approaching his own personal-best of 47.55m – the sixth-best throw in school history.
Nate Thomas did a little bit of everything, competing in the long jump, triple jump, and 200-meter dash. Thomas recorded a 5.67m long jump, 12.23m triple jump, and ran the 200m dash in 27.18 seconds.
The Redhawks will return to Tacoma, Wash., next weekend for the PLU Invite, hosted Mar. 13-14 by Pacific Lutheran University.
