SEATTLE, WA - Behind an offensive explosion, Seattle U baseball secured their first victory of the season as they knocked of Washington, 14-11, Tuesday night.
After a back-and-forth affair throughout, the crosstown rivals would go into the 9th inning tied at nine. With Royce Hale, Kenneth Rhein, and Tyler Horner all reaching base and only one out, Hunter Komine stepped to the plate.
Komine ripped an opposite field single into right, scoring Hale and Rhein. Komine would proceed to steal second before Jake Beauchaine drew a walk. Josh Cunnigan would then drive in two more with a single of his own, before a sacrifice bunt by Jared Stevenson added another, capping a 5-run Redhawk 9th.

The Huskies did not go down easily, answering with three runs in their half of the inning. Camden Oram would then be called in to get the final out of the night, getting a pop up to secure the dramatic victory.
Outside of the late inning theatrics, several Redhawks had huge days at the plate. Brandon Stinnett went 3-6 with a 2-run home run in the 2nd, Tyler Horner had two hits including a bases clearing double in the 4th, while Payton Knowles went 4-6 with two runs scored.
On the mound, Issac Hallam had a no-decision in his first start of the year. He went three innings while allowing three earned. Blake Smith (1-0) was credited with the win after pitching out of a bases loaded jam in the 8th and keeping the game tied up.
The victory, the first of 2026, moves Seattle U to 1-7 and gives them their first win over Washington since 2024. The Redhawks will now turn their attention to their home opener when they welcome Holy Cross to Bannerwood Park starting Friday, Feb. 27, for a 4-game series.
