SEATTLE - Seattle University women’s basketball (5-21, 1-14 WCC) spun the narrative in the second half out scoring LMU (12-8, 12-3 WCC) 33-30, but the effort could not overcome a first half deficit as the Redhawks fell 78-54 inside the Redhawk Center on Thursday evening.
Graduate Ella Brubaker led the way scoring 25 points, two shy of her Division I collegiate high, for her seventh 20+ scoring effort of the season and third in SU’s last four contests. Brubaker shot 66.7 percent from the field, knocking down eight field goals including three triples while finishing the night six-of-eight from the free throw line. On the defensive end, Brubaker grabbed three rebounds, a block and two steals.
Junior Lucija Milkovic scored eight while grabbing six rebounds including two offensive boards. Milkovic shot 50 percent from the field while also picking up a block and a steal on the defensive side. Redshirt senior Tamia Stricklin added eight points on 50 percent shooting from the floor while connecting for a triple. Stricklin paced the team with seven rebounds while also handing out a team leading three assists.
Freshmen Jana Vesic and Chloe Emanga combined for six assists, matching Stricklin with three. Emanga extended her perfect free throw streak to four straight games, matching her season best six-of-six from the stripe. She has now made 16 straight free throws.
The Redhawks combined for 42.9 percent shooting while grabbing 25 rebounds, four blocks and five steals. They forced 15 turnovers and scored 23 points off of Lion miscues.
Brubaker led the team in scoring through the opening ten minutes, collecting five points on 66.7 percent shooting from the floor. Vesic and Stricklin combined four four rebounds as the Redhawks trailed by eleven after the first quarter. Brubaker knocked down two more field goals, including a triple to score 10 points before the half. Emanga scored four before the break from the free throw line. SU trailed 48-21 at the half
Milkovic and Brubaker combined for nine points out of half time Brubaker grabbed two steals while Milkovic led the team in the third with three rebounds. Brubaker closed out the contest scoring 10 points in the fourth quarter shooting perfect from the field and five of six from the free throw line. Milkovic scored four while grabbing a block and a steal. The pair scored SU’s final seven points as the Redhawks fell 78-54 to the Lions
Seattle U returns to action on Saturday afternoon to host I-5 rival Portland at the Redhawk Center for its Play4Kay pink game.
