SEATTLE – Seku Sanders couldn’t have come any closer to a new personal best.
In the Husky Classic held at Washington's Dempsey Indoor from Feb. 13-14, Sanders ran a 1:51.60 in the 800 meter race. It was a blink away from his PR of 1:51.54, which stands as the second-best time in school history. Still, Sanders’ time in Saturday’s race was 23rd-best in a crowd of 51 qualifiers, competing unattached in the event along with three other Seattle university track and field Redhawks over the weekend.
On the men’s side, Sanders was joined by Matthew Fiso, who recorded a 13.47 meter distance in the triple jump. It was Fiso’s third meet of the indoor season after he competed in the UW Preview on Jan. 17, as well as the UW Invite on Jan. 31. At the UW Invite, Fiso set a new personal-best with the second-longest triple jump in Seattle U history (13.73 meters).
On the women’s side, Zoe Tibbo continued her busy indoor season after competing in the UW Preview and UW Invite. Tibbo showcased her versatile skillset at the Husky Classic, competing in the 60 meter race, long jump, and triple jump.
Tibbo again improved upon her 60 meter time, clocking 8.24 seconds after recording a time of 8.32 seconds in the UW Invite, and 8.45 seconds in the UW Preview. She also recorded a 5.20 meter distance in the long jump, inching closer to her personal-best of 5.27 meters which is the fifth-best in Redhawk history. Tibbo jumped 10.86 meters in the triple jump – another event in which she holds a top-five mark in Seattle U history.
Kaylyn Huynh showed no signs of rust in her first indoor event of the season, competing in both the 60 meter race and the 200 meter race. Huynh set her 60 meter indoor personal-best with a time of 8.30 seconds, cruising past her previous PR of 8.46. In the 200 meter race, Huynh recorded a time of 28.72 seconds.
