SEATTLE – Seattle University men’s basketball is in its final stretch of the West Coast Conference regular season, hosting Saint Mary’s on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The season’s second meeting between the two programs will tip off at 6 p.m. at Climate Pledge Arena and broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.

  • Seattle U opened its three-game homestand with a 60-50 win over Oregon State on Sunday.
  • The win over the Beavers evened the season series after OSU won in Corvallis last month.
  • The win improved the Redhawks to 16-11 on the season and 5-9 in WCC play.
  • Seattle U sits in a tie for 8th in the WCC amidst a log-jammed middle of the standings. Just 3.0 games separate 4th through 10th as teams battle for seeding in the WCC Tournament.
  • The Redhawks matched a season low of allowing just 18 first-half points to the Beavers. The 50 total points scored by their opponent was the second fewest of the season and the fewest by a Division I opponent.
  • Offensively, John Christofilis came off the bench to lead the way with 16 points, including four threes.
  • Will Heimbrodt was one rebound shy of a double -double, finishing with 15 points and nine boards.
  • Jojo Murphy hit 1,500 points for his career with his second bucket of the night and finished with 11 points in a season-high 31 minutes.
  • Houran Dan tallied his third double-digit outing in the last four games, finishing with 10 points off the bench.
  • The win over the Beavers moved Seattle U to 12-3 at home (9-2 at the Redhawk Center), 12-3 when leading at the half, 8-1 when winning the rebound battle, 7-2 with four or more scoring in double-figures and 5-2 when holding opponents under 60 points.

ABOUT THE SERIES VS SAINT MARY'S

  • This marks the 36th all-time meeting Seattle U and Saint Mary’s, though just the fourth in Seattle U’s modern DI era.
  • Seattle U holds a 24-11 all-time record against the Gaels, including a 9-0 record in Seattle.
  • Saint Mary’s has won the last six meetings, including a 93-76 final in this season’s first meeting in Moraga on Jan. 4.
  • The Redhawks led 44-38 at halftime, but the Gaels rallied at home in the second half, outscoring Seattle U 54-32 in the frame.
  • Junseok Yeo had a career-high 24 points, including six threes, in the loss. Will Heimbrodt added 19 points and Maleek Arington added 12.
  • Three Gaels accounted for 65 of the team’s 93 points, including 30 from Paulius Murauskas.
  • The teams met 18 times as West Coast Athletic Conference (now West Coast Conference) opponents from 1971-80. Seattle U won 13 of those 18 meetings.

  • Will Heimbrodt has 66 blocks through 27 games, leading the WCC and ranking among the nation’s best in the statistical category.
  • With four games remaining in the regular season, Heimbrodt sits in second in Seattle U’s single-season record book.
  • Seattle U’s all-time record for blocks in a single season is 79, set by Aaron Menzies during the 2017-18 season.
  • Meanwhile, Heimbrodt’s 82 career blocks ties three others for fifth all-time at Seattle U. Heimbrodt shares the rank with Jeffrey McDaniel (2002-06), David White (2005-07) and Riley Grigsby (2019-23). In fourth all-time is Brandton Chatfield (2022-24) with 93 career blocks.
  • Maleek Arington’s 62 steals this season moves him into the Seattle U top-10 for a single season. In a tie for eighth are Eric Briggs (1986-87) and Andrew Lang (1992-93) with 63.
  • Arington’s 135 career steals at Seattle U ties for seventh all-time with Morgan Means (2017-20). In sixth is Ray Brooks (1983-85) with 138.
  • John Christofilis has poured in 146 threes in two-plus seasons at SU, putting him in 10th all-time. Sitting tied for eigth are Andre Lang (91-95) and Morgan Means (2017-20), each with 150 career threes.

NUMBERS WATCH

  • The 60-50 win over Oregon State on Feb. 15 was No. 96 at Seattle U for Head Coach Chris Victor. He is four wins away from the century mark while leading the Redhawks. Victor is also one wins away from 200 for his career as a head coach, which also includes six seasons at Citrus College in California.
  • On Sunday, Feb. 15, Jojo Murphy surpassed 1,500 points during his collegiate career. The senior who spent his first three seasons at Chico State, hit the marker with a floater in the lane midway through the second half against Oregon State. He finished the night with 11 points and now sits at 1,507 for his career.
  • Brayden Maldonado is the next Redhawk nearing the milestone marker. He enters Wednesday’s game  versus Saint Mary’s with 1,395 career points.
