NORTHRIDGE, CA - Seattle U baseball dropped their 2026 season opener vs Cal State Northridge, 5-10, Friday night at Robert J. Hiegert Field. The Redhawks scored two in the top of the first but allowed seven in the home half and could not recover as they dropped game one of the new campaign.

“We obviously dug ourselves in a big hole with the seven spot in the bottom of the first, after scoring two runs to start the game," Head Coach Donny Harrel said post-game. "Guys never stopped competing, so happy that we kept competing and did not give in after chasing runs all day.”

The five Redhawk runs were driven in by Tyler Horner, Kenneth Rhein, and Josh Cunnigan. Horner (1-4, 1 RBI) kick started the offense in the 1st with an RBI double and was brought home by Rhein (1-1, 1 RBI, 3 BB) a couple of at-bats later. Cunnigan (1-3, 3 RBI) tried to spark a Redhawk rally in the 5th when he ripped a bases clearing double down the right line, but they would be the last runs of the night for SU.

On the mound, Camden Oram (0-1) was credited with the loss after his first start in a Redhawk uniform. He would go just one inning while allowing seven earned on five hits. Travis Farrell would have a long relief stint after taking over the begin the 2nd, going 4.1 IP while allowing one earned and striking out four. Kaden Alberghini would finish off the remaining 2.2 of the game, also allowing one earned and striking out three Matadors.

"Farrell and Alberghini saved our bullpen with only allowing three more runs the last 7 innings, Coach Harrel added. "We only matched their three runs and could not make up the difference."

The Redhawks will look to bounce back in the second game of the series tomorrow. Kale Hammer will get the start on the mound for SU with first pitch set for 4:00pm PT.
