QUICK HITS
- Seattle U opened the 2025-26 season with an 84-73 win over Denver on Monday, Nov. 3.
- The Redhawks have now won six of their last seven-season opening games.
- The season-opening matchup with the Pioneers came just three days after the announcement that the teams will begin competing as West Coast Conference foes next season. Denver will join the WCC beginning in 2026-27, bringing the league to 11 full-time members next year.
- The Redhawks were led by a combined 52 points from senior guard Brayden Maldonado and redshirt sophomore Will Heimbrodt. Maldonado poured in a career-high 28 points on 9-15 FGs while Heimbrodt added a career-high 24 points on 9-14 FGs.
- Heimbrodt, who also earned his first collegiate start in the season opener, more than doubled his previous career high of 11 points. The redshirt sophomore appeared in 27 games off the bench last season, scoring a season total 55 points.
- Maleek Arington added 10 points versus the Pioneers to give Seattle U a trip of double-digit scorers. Junseok Yeo added nine points and two rebounds in his Seattle U debut.
ABOUT THE SERIES VS CAL POLY
- Seattle U and Cal Poly have just four previous meetings, all coming since 2008.
- The Mustangs hold a slight 3-1 edge in the series.
- The teams last met on Nov. 14, 2024, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., with the Mustangs winning 75-71 on their home court. In that meeting, the Redhawks led 70-67 on a Brayden Maldonado steal and layup with 2:39 to play, but would not score another field goal down the stretch. A costly turnover just under a minute to play and a pair of missed free throws to potentially tie the game with six seconds remaining seal their fate.
- John Christofilis had 16 points to lead the Redhawks in scoring in the last meeting. Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe had 14 points and 15 rebounds while Maldonado added 13 points.
- Seattle U won the first-ever meeting, 60-59, on Dec. 14, 2008 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
- The Mustangs won the next two in the series during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
