ABOUT THE SERIES VS EASTERN WASHINGTON

  • Seattle U is 10-17 all-time against the Eagles, dating back to the 1945-46 season.
  • In the Redhawks’ modern-day Division I era, the teams are 8-9 in a very back-and-forth series.
  • Four games have gone into overtime, including two in 2009 and two in 2016.
  • The teams last met in the 2024-25 season opener in Cheney, Wash. The Eagles  won on their home court, 93-86.
  • In that last meeting, graduate transfer Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe collected a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double in his Redhawk debut and was joined in double figures by John Christofilis (17 points) and Paris Dawson (14 points).
  • Prior to last season, the teams had not faced off in five years – a Nov. 9, 2019 meeting in Seattle with the Eagles claiming a 74-66 win.
  • Previous to that, the Redhawks had won two straight and three of the last five.

Seattle U won the first meeting in its return to DI, 63-59, in overtime at EWU during the 2008-09 season. The teams would go on to split a home-and-home series the next two years, each winning on their home courts. Seattle U won the lone meeting in 2011-12 and EWU won four straight before the Redhawks prevailed for a 58-52 win at KeyArena on Nov. 23, 2015. Both meetings in 2016-17 were thrilling double overtime contests, each that went the way of the Eagles.

EASTERN TIES

  • Prior to Seattle U, Head Coach Chris Victor served as an assistant coach at Eastern Washington for two seasons. His first season on the Eagle coaching staff was punctuated by Eastern’s first-ever victory in a national postseason tournament as a member of NCAA Division I when the Eagles beat Pepperdine, 79-72, in the College Basketball Invitational. The Eagles went 22-12 and returned to the CBI in 2016-17.
  • Current Seattle U Associate Head Coach Grant Leep also spent time with the Eagles’ program. Leep joined the EWU staff beginning with the 2005-06 season, spending four total years as an assistant coach with the Eagles.
