SPOKANE VALLEY, WASH. — The Seattle U cross country team competed in its inaugural West Coast Conference Championship Saturday morning.

The race, held at The Course Spokane Valley, marked the first WCC Championship across all Seattle U sports since rejoining the conference.

But the new venue produced a similar frontrunner for the Redhawks’ women’s team. Azalea Groleau clocked a 21:18 time in the 6k race, leading the way for Seattle U and finishing 27th overall in a field of 107 runners. Behind Groleau was Diana Camargo Solis, who finished with a time of 22:50.

On the men’s side, freshman phenom Roman Radecki again rose to the occasion in the men’s 8k. Facing heightened competition, Radecki ran a time of 25:34 for a 56th place finish. Earlier this year, Radecki recorded the 12th best 8k time in Seattle U history (24:57). Aidan Loeffelman (26:48) and Seku Sanders (27:01) were the next Redhawks to finish after Radecki.

Against an assortment of elite programs, Seattle U got a glimpse of its future with competitive showings by freshman Mira Danish (23:17), and sophomore Annabelle Clapp (23:22). For the men, freshman Casey Miller was the fourth team finisher with a time of 27:48.

Next up, the Redhawks will compete in the NCAA West Regionals on Friday, Nov. 14 in Sacramento, Calif. Last year, the women’s team recorded their best regionals finish in program history
