SEATTLE - An evening of Red and White fanfare lies in store for Seattle University volleyball as the program competes in its first ever home West Coast Conference match since joining the league in July 2025. The Redhawks (6-7, 0-2 WCC) welcome inter-state foe Washington State (8-4, 2-0 WCC) to the Redhawk Center for Volleypalooza on Thursday night at 6 PM.
Sophomore Madyn Cervellera comes off a career weekend in the program’s WCC debut weekend, grabbing her third 20+ kill effort of the season against LMU last Thursday. She posted 26 kills to lead all players and ended the SU Southern California outing with her eighth double-double in digs and kills over the weekend. The Lake Stevens native ranks fourth in the conference in kills with 183, trailing those tied-2nd by one. The mark ranks tied-82nd in the nation. Her 3.45 kills per set also rank fifth in the WCC.
Freshman Petra Fritz has also made a name amongst the top of the league, recording .43 aces a set to rank fourth in the conference. Her 19 aces leads all Redhawks while also ranking fourth in the WCC. Fellow freshman Katelynn Albano cracks the top-20 with Fritz, ranking tied-16th with 15 aces so far this season.
Putting the Redhawks on the defensive are junior Taniyah Pruitt and redshirt junior Yasemin Elmas, who both rank top-15 in the WCC in blocks per set. Pruitt remains in the top-10 after appearing in 12 matches on the year, averaging 1.10 blocks per set. Elmas sits right outside with .96 blocks a set. Pruitt’s 54.0 blocks is tied-3rd most in the league while Elmas ranks tied-6th with 48.0 blocks. Pruitt ranks second in solo blocks with 14.
Albano patrols the floor for the Redhawk defense, ranking eighth in the conference in digs with 144. She averages 2.72 digs a set with appearances in all 13 matches so far this season.
Seattle U ranks fifth in the conference with 599 kills this season, while sharing a similar place in assists with 541. The Redhawks’ 81 aces ranks tied-fourth. On the defensive side, the Redhawks have accrued 114.0 blocks through 53 sets, ranking tied-third in the WCC. They rank third with 164 block assists and fifth in solo blocks with 32.
Thursday’s contest will be the sixth ever meeting between Seattle U and Washington State. The Cougars lead the all-times series 5-0 dating back to the first match in 2007. They have only ever played SU once in Seattle, narrowly defeating the Redhawks in five sets in 2011. The pair have not played a match since the 2015 season.
WSU in its final season of affiliation membership in the West Coast Conference will play its first of two league matches against the Redhawks this season. The Cougars hit the road for the first time since September 13, enjoying a 3-1 record over a four match home stand in Pullman. They secured a sweep over San Francisco to kick off the conference slate before defeating Santa Clara in five sets last Saturday afternoon.
The Redhawks look to maintain their unbeaten record at home while also securing their first WCC victory of the year.
