SEATTLE - Two matches remain for the Seattle University volleyball team as the Redhawks (6-3) conclude the 2025 nonconference slate at Eastern Washington over the weekend. They face host Eastern Washington (1-8) at Reese Court tomorrow evening at 6PM before wrapping the weekend against Montana (6-3) on Friday at 2PM.
Thursday’s match will air on ESPN+. Live stats are available for both matches. Friday’s match will not be streamed.
Sophomore Madyn Cervellera leads the team with 115 kills on the year, averaging 3.11 a set. The mark ranks her second in the West Coast Conference. Redshirt sophomore Teagan Melton has contributed an additional 80 kills, averaging 2.16 a set. Redshirt junior Yasemin Elmas has notched 59 kills through 34 sets, while also contributing on the defensive end. Her 1.09 blocks per set ranks second on the team.
Freshman Petra Fritz has totaled a team leading 16 aces in her debut season with Seattle U. The mark leads the team while ranking tied-57th in the country. Her .53 aces per set ranks second in the WCC, while ranking 55th in the nation.
Orchestrating the Redhawk offense is sophomore setter Grace Jones, who has tallied 164 assists, averaging 4.69 a contest. Her fellow sophomore setter Anae Asuncion has posted 150 assists through 36 sets of action.
A pillar so far this season has been the Redhawk defense. The Redhawks pace the WCC with 90.0 blocks and 132 block assists. Their 24 solo blocks ranks second to Pepperdine by one. Their 90.0 total blocks ranks 20th in the country. Leading that effort is junior Taniyah Pruitt, who’s tallied 45.0 total blocks on the year, which ranks tied-23rd in the nation. Her 1.22 blocks per set ranks 5th in the conference. Redshirt junior Yasemin Elmas has also cracked the top-100 nationally, posting 37.0 blocks this season.
Together the Redhawks rank 4th or better in six categories in the WCC. Their 428 kills is third in the league while their combined 62 aces ranks second. They take 4th in assists with 384 recorded thus far this season.
The Redhawks are a combined 10-5 against the tournament field, capturing seven wins against the Eagles dating back to 2008. The pair haven’t met since 2023 and Eastern Washington has claimed the last two meetings. Seattle U and Montana have met four times since 2014, with Friday’s contest being the first since the 2021 season. The Griz claimed their first win over the Redhawks that season in five sets.
Seattle U and Eastern Washington meet for the 12th time in program history with the Redhawks leading the all-time series 7-4. They are 2-3 against the Eagles in Cheney, last defeating them there in 2014 in five sets. The Eagles claimed their first win of the season last weekend, downing WCC counterpart Pacific in five sets.
Montana holds the longest streak between the trio, coming into the weekend with six straight wins. The Griz come off their second tournament sweep of the year, defeating Eastern Illinois, Butler and Indiana State last weekend. They match the Redhawks with a 6-3 record on the year. Friday’s meeting is the fifth ever between Montana and Seattle U, dating back to their first meeting in 2014. The pair have met once on a neutral floor, with the Redhawks taking the sweep in 2017.
Following the weekend, the Redhawks hit the road to start conference play, traveling to LMU and Pepperdine the final weekend of September. They return home on Thursday, October 2 to host Washington State for their first home WCC match at 6PM.
