SEATTLE – Another season is underway for the Seattle University cross country team.
The Redhawks will kick off the year with a dual meet against Washington Tuesday, Sept. 2, with the women's 5400 meter race beginning at 9:00 am, and the men's 8800 meter race beginning at 9:45 am. This marks Seattle U's first meet as a member of the West Coast Conference.
The Redhawks will launch into the new conference aiming to continue their momentum in year two with head coach Jordana LeSavage at the helm. In 2024, LeSavage led the Redhawks to the best women’s finish in Seattle University history at the NCAA West Regionals, finishing 17th in a field of 39 teams – an increase of eight places from the year prior. LeSavage also coached three All-WAC honorees in 2024, including 2025 returners Azalea Groleau and Diana Camargo Solis.
On the men’s side, the Redhawks return five runners who recorded their fastest collegiate 10K times at the NCAA West Regionals – the final meet of the season. Seku Sanders returns after an impressive freshman season which featured a career best 26:16.4 in the 2024 Bronco Invitational. Porter Buck looks to sustain momentum from his stellar freshman track season, which included a personal best 4:04.50 in the 1500 meter event in the 2025 outdoor season.
But for all the talent returning to Seattle, LeSavage brought reinforcements, as well.
The women’s side welcomes Peyton Basilio, a four-time Hawaii state qualifier across cross country and track, Mira Danish, a five-time Oregon state qualifier across both sports, and Chloe Thompson, an Oregon state cross country meet qualifier all four years.
The men’s side brings forth Casey Miller, part of the Ida B. Wells High School team that placed third in the 6A OSAA state meet in 2024, and Roman Radecki, the 14th place individual finisher in the 6A OSAA State Championship in 2024.
In addition to the new talent on the course, the Redhawks also bring a revamped coaching staff to the 2025 season, featuring new assistant coaches Alex Jensen, Lance Mason, and Karsten Kaufmann. Jensen and Mason should be familiar names to Redhawk fans as 2025 graduates of Seattle University’s cross country and track and field programs.
