SEATTLE - The Seattle University Redhawks have just one meet this week after a busy April, heading to Corvallis, Oregon for the Oregon State High Performance Meet. That meet will take place over two days, beginning May 2.
This is Seattle U's first time back in action since a momentous two-meet week in April, when the Redhawks competed at the Bryan Clay and Lewis & Clark Invitationals. There, the Redhawks set new all-time program records in both the 800m and the triple jump. Alex Jensen broke the 800m record, set previously this year by Seku Sanders, with a 1:50.63. Matthew Fiso broke the triple jump record, set in 2017 by Nick Redlew. Fiso had a 14.21m jump on his third attempt, breaking Redlew's record by more than a foot. Then, just two jumps later, Fiso finished off the meet with a 14.28m jump to improve upon his own record.
The Redhawks have competed at the OSU High Performance Meet in each of the last 12 years it was held, with only 2019's canceled meet breaking up that streak. Three current Redhawks set new all-time top-ten times at last year's meet: JR Zamora (long jump), Manthita Wague (long jump & triple jump), and Livii Fetterley (200m).
In 2023, Fetterley, Taylor Marks, Zoe Tibbo, and Alex Jensen all set new top-ten times at the OSU High Performance. Fetterley did so in the 100m Hurdles and shotput, Marks in the 200m and as part of the 4x100m Relay team, Tibbo in the long jump, and Jensen in the 800m.
Following this week's meet, the Redhawks will have only one more meet before the WAC Outdoor Championships. That final regular-season meet will be the Oregon Twilight Meet, set for May 9 in Eugene, Oregon.
