PAYSON, Ariz. – For the second time in program history, the Seattle University Redhawks clinched the Western Athletic Conference Championship. The Redhawks took the lead in round one and led for almost the entirety of the 54-hole competition. Kevin Li nearly became the first athlete to win back-to-back WAC individual championships since 2004, only to fall in the second playoff hole.
The WAC title means the Redhawks will be making their fourth trip to NCAA Regionals and second as a team. Li (2024) and Nathan Cogswell (2022) have both made NCAA Regionals trips as individuals, while the Redhawks went as a team in 2017 after their first team WAC championship.
Li nearly became the fourth player ever to win back-to-back WAC titles. The sophomore shot -1 under, 71 on day one, then had even-par rounds two and three. That put Li into a tie for first with Utah Valley's Dane Huddleston. The duo had two holes of playoff golf before the tie was broken, with Huddleston awarded the WAC individual championship.
Walker Lamb finished fourth overall, just two strokes back of Li at +1. After an even-par first round, he shot +5 over, 77 in round two. His final round matched the best of the freshman's collegiate career: Lamb shot -4 under, 68, with birdies on seven different holes. Lamb also had a round of -4 under at February's Mesquite Desert Classic.
Ben Ragland would end at +11 overall, buoyed by strong rounds one and two. Ragland shot even-par in round one and was a -1 under, 71 in round two. He would finish 20th overall.
Will Koch finished in 23rd with a score of +13 across three rounds. His best round came on day one, where he shot +3 over, 75. Conrad Chisman's best round was also on day one, where he shot +3 over, 75. He finished at +17 overall.
With an NCAA berth secure, the Redhawks will await the selection show to see where they will play next. The NCAA Regionals selection show will take place on April 30 at 10:00 am PT. It will be aired live on the Golf Channel.
