SEATTLE - The postseason begins for the Seattle University Redhawks this week, who will head to the Western Athletic Conference Championship. This year's WAC Championship will be held at Chaparral Pines Golf Course in Payson, Arizona. It will be a three-day tournament, with one round played on each of April 25-27.
Seattle U will be the four-seed this year, behind Grand Canyon, Utah Valley, and Utah Tech. Abilene Christian, California Baptist, Tarleton State, UT Arlington, and Southern Utah will also compete.
The Redhawks enter the WAC strong. Seattle U has finished fifth or better in four of their last five competitions and has not finished worse than sixth as a team since October. Last time out, the Redhawks took sixth at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational, where Kevin Li shot -4 overall and was under par in all three rounds.
Li will look to defend his individual WAC championship this week, having won it last year with a score of -6 across 54 holes. Li was the first freshman to win the WAC since 2015 and the second Redhawk ever to do so along with Nathan Cogswell, who won it in 2022. Seattle U's last team WAC title came in 2017 at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.
This is the first time that the Redhawks have competed in Arizona since last year's WAC Championship, which was also held at Chaparral Pines in Payson, Arizona. There, the Redhawks took ninth as a team. Current Redhawks Li (-6), Ben Ragland (+13), and Will Koch (+15) all competed. Ragland is the only current Redhawk to have competed at multiple WAC Championships: he also competed at the 2023 edition along with current Redhawk Liam Gill.
The team and individual winners of the WAC will book automatic trips to NCAA Regionals. The NCAA Men's Golf Selection Show is on April 30 at 10:00 am PT on the Golf Channel.
