SEATTLE - It will be the second split meet of the outdoor season for the Seattle University Redhawks, who will compete at both the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Lewis & Clark Invitational. The Bryan Clay Invitational will be held in Azusa, California and runs three days, beginning April 16. The Lewis & Clark Invitational will be in Portland on April 18 and 19.
This is the second competition weekend in a row that the Redhawks will split the team between two meets. Last time out, the Redhawks competed at both the Mike Fanelli Classic and the Stanford Invitational, both in the Bay Area. There, the Redhawks set nine new all-time top-ten times, including three in the 800m and two in the 1500m. Lilianne Hargreaves set two: she improved on her personal best in the 1500m with a 4:29.48, second in SU history, as well as ran the seventh-fastest 800m in SU history, a 2:14.29.
McKenna White (1500m), Dan Barreto (3000m Steeplechase), Annabelle Clapp (800m), Osaze Williams (800m), Alex Jensen (800m), and Rachel Albright (hammer) all individually worked their way up the top-ten lists. The 4x400 relay team on Matthew Fiso, Jensen, JR Zamora, and Williams also went in with the seventh-fastest time in SU history, a 3:21.80.
The Redhawks have competed in the Bryan Clay Invitational four straight years now, last not doing so in 2021. Current Redhawks Hargreaves, Azalea Groleau, and Taylor Marks all worked into the record book last year. Groleau broke her own school record in the 5k with a 16:46.75, a mark that still stands. Hargreaves had the third-best 1500m in SU history, a mark she has bested twice, including last competition. Marks had the seventh-best 100m in school history with a 12.69, still her personal best.
Groleau and Jensen each recorded top-ten times in 2023 at the Bryan Clay Invitational as well, in the 5k and 800m, respectively. While new current Redhawks set current program records at the 2022 Bryan Clay Invitational, Groleau, Hargreaves, and Marks all set personal bests they have improved upon since.
Seattle U has not competed at the Lewis & Clark Invitational since 2018. No current Redhawks competed at that meet. Seattle U's last competition in Portland came in January of 2020, at the University of Portland Meet.
