PULLMAN - Seattle U baseball had a record setting afternoon as they took down Washington State, 12-10, on Sunday. The Redhawks set a new single-game program record for doubles (7) and extra base hits (11) as the offense exploded in the series finale.
"So proud of these guys to finish this road trip with a split," head coach Donny Harrel said post-game. "With three of our top arms out, and Hagler just coming back and on a pitch count, the offense really stepped up and took the game over."
Nine different Redhawks combined to record 14 hits on the day. Jake Wagoner, Hunter Komine, and Sebastian Lopez all had multi-hit performances, with Wagoner and Komine both picking up three hits.
Of the 14 total hits, 11 of them were for extra bases which set the program record. Sam Kane had a solo home run to get the party started, his team leading fifth of the season. Jared Stevenson and Lopez both had a triple, and six different Redhawks hit doubles. Their seven doubles were also a program record, the Redhawks had six doubles in a game three times prior with the most recent being a game vs Stephen F. Austin last year.
On the mound, Micah Hagler had the start and went 1.2 IP due to a pitch count. Kenny Ishikawa (2-2) would replace him in the 2nd inning and went six total while giving up just one earned run to earn his second win of the year. Colin Curry made his first collegiate appearance on the mound when he pitched 1/3 of an inning. Brady Liddle would finish the game off to secure the Redhawk victory.
"Ishikawa was amazing today, and what a spark we got from Hunter Komine as well," coach Harrel added. "Brady Liddle came to me and our pitching coach in the 8th when he knew we were running out of options on the mound and asked for the ball to be in his hands to finish the game, so big kiddos out to him as a senior leader."
The win moves the Redhawks to 4-11 on the season and concludes their 4-game road trip to the eastern part of the state. They will be back on the west side as they open up a home stand that will see them play eight straight games at Bannerwood Park. First up will be a single-game showdown with Saint Martin's on Tuesday, March 11.
