TACOMA – The Seattle University Redhawks put together a complete meet at the Peyton-Shotwell Invitational, recording new program top-ten times in four different field events. The Redhawks also won the triple jump in both men's and women's and the long jump in women's as Matthew Fiso and Zoe Tibbo took home event victories.
Tibbo had a big performance with wins in both the long and triple jump. In the long jump, Tibbo had a 5.21m jump, almost half a meter more than any other competitor. The triple jump saw Tibbo win by .10m with her distance on 11.02m.
It was Fiso who won the triple jump for the Redhawks with a 13.56m distance. That was .20m better than any other competitor at the Peyton-Shotwell. Sean Ellison (13.32m) and JR Zamora (13.21m) finished third and fourth as well.
In the discus, Rock Gignac had the sixth-best throw in Seattle U history with a 28.89m throw. Gignac also had the tenth-best javelin throw in school history with his personal-best 42.30m.
Ellison and Zamora each put new distances in the SU record books. Ellison did so in the triple jump: he had a 13.32m, besting his previous high by .02m for the eighth-best distance in Redhawk history. He stands just .05m behind Brock Jahner for seventh all-time.
Zamora's new record-book entry was in the long jump. Already holding SU's second-best jump ever, he improved his personal best of 6.56m by .02m with a 6.58m. Only Jamaari Jefferson has recorded a better long jump in SU history.
The Redhawks have two meets coming up next weekend, both in the Bay Area. Seattle U will take part in the three-day Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, which runs from April 3-5. The Redhawks will also be a part of the Stanford Invitational on April 5-6.
