SEATTLE - The annual Seattle U Redhawk Invitational is upcoming as the Seattle University Redhawks play host to an 18-team field at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington. It will be 54 holes spread across two days of competition, beginning March 31. UC San Diego, Oregon State, George Washington, Eastern Kentucky, UC Santa Barbara, Creighton, Sacred Heart, Utah Tech, Sacramento State, Lamar, George Mason, UC Riverside, Idaho, St. Thomas, Abilene Christian, Penn, and North Idaho will compete. Oregon State and Idaho are the only previous champions of this competition returning this season, having won in 2023 (Idaho) and 2024 (Oregon State).

It will be the 11th iteration of the Redhawk Invitational, which began in 2014 and has been held every year since except for 2020. The Redhawks have finished in the top five each of the last three years, highlighted by a second-place finish in 2023. Current Redhawk Will Koch finished fourth last season: Nathan Cogswell is the only Redhawk to finish higher, taking second in 2022 and fourth in 2023.

Koch's -7 score across 54 holes from 2024 was the lowest cumulative score ever by a Redhawk at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational, matching Cogswell's -7 from 2019. Seattle U's best team score ever was also last year, at -4.

Koch, Ben Ragland, Liam Gill, and Kevin Li all competed at the Redhawk Invitational last season and return this year. Ragland shot a -3 to finish seventh last year. Gill, who along with Ragland are the only Redhawks to have competed in multiple Redhawk Invitationals already, shot a +4 in 2024, +6 in 2023, and a +5 in 2022.

The Redhawks are amidst a stretch of strong play as they enter the Redhawk Invitational. It has been three straight tournaments of top-five team finishes for Seattle U, culminating in a fifth-place finish at the UC San Diego Invitational last time out. There, Li had his best finish of the season, second overall, and best finish since winning the Western Athletic Conference as a freshman. Li shot -3 under, 69 in round two, his sixth round under 70 this year.

Li earned WAC Golfer of the Week for his performance. It was the first such honor of Li's career and first for the Redhawks since Cogswell earned the award in March 2023.

After the conclusion of the Redhawk Invitational, Seattle U will have just one more competition before the WAC Championship. That will be the UC Santa Barbara Invitational on April 7 and 8.
