SEATTLE - The Seattle University Redhawks have their first competition of the new year as they head to Nevada for the Mesquite Desert Classic, hosted at Casablanca Resort and Casino by Eastern Kentucky.
The Redhawks are one of 12 teams competing at the Mesquite Desert Classic. Seattle U will be competing against Bowling Green, Utah Valley, Idaho, Cal Poly, Bellarmine, Ohio, Utah Tech, Northern Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, and Western Kentucky.
Last time out, the Redhawks finished the fall season strong. Four Redhawks finished under par at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic in October, led by Liam Gill's career-best -10 that earned him fifth place overall. That score was the second-best for 54 holes in SU history, behind only Nathan Cogswell's -14 from 2023. Walker Lamb, Kevin Li, and Ben Ragland all finished under par at that tournament as well.
After five fall tournaments, the Redhawks have three different golfers averaging par or better scores per round. Li, Ragland, and Gill are all averaging a 72 per 18 holes. All seven golfers to see action thus far for the Redhawks have recorded at least one round under par.
This is the first time the Redhawks have competed in Mesquite, Nevada. The Redhawks last competed in Nevada in 2023, when the WAC Championship was hosted in Boulder City. At that event, the Redhawks finished -22 overall and took fourth out of 13 teams. Ragland and Gill are the only currently Redhawks who competed at that tournament.
