SEATTLE - The indoor track and field season kicks off in a big way this weekend as the Seattle University Redhawks will compete across two days at Washington. First up will be the Washington Preview meet, starting at noon on January 17 at Washington's Dempsey Indoor Facility. January 18 will be the Mile City competition, which will begin at 10:30 am.

The Washington Preview will consist of six field events for both the men's and women's sides, as well as nine track events. The men's weight throws will start off the field events and the women's 60m hurdles prelims will start off things for track events, with both of those set to begin at 12:00 pm.

The Mile City competition will see both the men's and women's mile races competed. The first heat of the mile will begin at 10:30 am.

This marks the first meet for the full Seattle University team of the 2025 season. Lilianne Hargreaves, Azalea Groleau, and Alex Jensen all have one meet under their belts already, having taken part in December's Colyear-Danville Opener. There, both Groleau and Hargreaves beat the previous Seattle University 3000m record, with Hargreaves running a 9:36.11 and Groleau running a 9:41.85. Jensen set a new personal best in the mile there with his time of 4:17.05.

This is the fourth consecutive year that the Redhawks have begun the indoor track and field season at Washington's preview meet. Only once in the last 20 years has Seattle University not competed at the Washington Preview, as it was not held during the 2021 season.

Last year's Washington Preview was a momentous one for the Redhawks, who saw Hargreaves set a school record in the 3k that she has already broken again this season. Miguel Rosario tied his own school record in the 60m dash, a mark he bested later that year. Yonas Sauers ran the sixth-fastest men's 3k in school history at last year's event as well, while Sean Ellison earned the seventh spot on Seattle University's all-time triple jump list.

This weekend will be the first two of three January meets for the Redhawks, with all three taking place at Washington's Dempsey Indoor Facility. Seattle University will take part in the Washington Invitational on January 31 and February 1 as well. The Husky Classic, on February 14-15, will be the last meet for the Redhawks before the WAC Championships, which begin February 28 in Spokane.
