SEATTLE - Senior defender Demian Alvarez was selected in the 2nd round of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft by the Seattle Sounders on Friday, as announced by Major League Soccer and the Seattle Sounders. He becomes the fifth Redhawk to be selected by the hometown Sounders.

"We are thrilled for Demian to get drafted by the Seattle Sounders and are excited for this next chapter in his playing career," said head coach Nate Daligcon. "Over the past two years he has been an integral part of the team's success, and we are excited to watch his development at the professional level."

Alvarez, a native of Chico, Calif., had a standout final season with the Redhawks in 2024. Not only did he help lead the team to its 10th Western Athletic Conference (WAC) title, but he was also named the conference's Defender of the Year and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the conclusion of the WAC tournament. He also received national attention, being announced as a selection to the United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region First Team.

In two seasons with the program, he started and played in 38 games while registering two goals and assisting on another. Where the center back shined was defensively, guiding a stingy Seattle U back line to 24 wins and two NCAA tournament appearances over the two-year span.

He joins Kyle Bjornethun (2017), Alex Roldan (2018), Julian Avila-Good (2020), and Hal Uderitz (2022) as players to be drafted by the Seattle Sounders from the Redhawk program, with Roldan still being an active player for the club. He is also the eighth player selected in the SuperDraft since 2017.
