SEATTLE - Four members of the 2024 Seattle U volleyball team earned selection to the CSC All-Academic All-District team, as announced by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday. Arianna Bilby, Katlyn Sipes, Tatum Chase and Merima Smajlovic all took home the distinction.
To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must participate in 90 percent of contests while maintaining a cumulative 3.5 GPA with at least sophomore standing.
Bilby led the Redhawks as a member of the All-WAC Second Team, pacing the team with 319 kills on the year. She ranked top-five on the team in digs (243), aces (26) and blocks (41.0). Her 3.29 kills per set ranked seventh in the WAC.
Sipes took home two WAC weekly honors, the first Redhawk to do so since 2015. The defensive specialist/libero was recognized by the league as its WAC Libero of the Week for October 9 and November 19. She led the team with 393 digs, ranking third in the conference with 4.05 digs per set.
Smajlovic ranked fourth in the conference, while leading the team with 37 aces on the year. Her .38 aces per set this season ranks her fifth in Seattle U's modern division-I era.
Chase appeared in 26 matches, earning the start in 16 for a total of 91 sets. She ranked fourth on the team in kills, amassing 146 this year. She also ranked third on the team in blocks, racking up 43.0 in 2024.
For seniors Bilby and Sipes, it's the second year in a row the pair have made an all-academic all-district team, coming off selection to 2023's team. Chase and Smajlovic earned their first.
