RIVERSIDE, CA. - Seattle U men's soccer took down California Baptist, 1-0, behind a thrilling last second goal by Richy Lapointe-Guevara on Sunday. The Redhawks and Lancers were deadlocked for 89 minutes of action, but a quick march down the field by SU in the final seconds lifts them to the road victory.
The sequence sprung free on a counter by the Redhawks, before Taketo Onodera played a ball into the box for Alex Notzka who promptly crossed it to Lapointe-Guevara for the win. It was the first goal of the season for the senior midfielder and his second career game-winning goal in a Seattle U uniform.
Not lost in the dramatic final minute was one of the best defensive performances of the season for the Redhawks. They held the Lancers to just eight shots, with only one of them needing the gloves of Charlie Lanphier. It was the third shutout in the last five games for Seattle U.
MATCH TIMELINE
Seattle U will be back in action, in California for the third straight match, when they play at San Jose State on Saturday, Oct. 26. Kick off between the Redhawks and Spartans is scheduled for 7pm PT.
