STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Seattle University volleyball checked all the boxes with a 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-23) victory over Tarleton State on Thursday evening at Wisdom Gym. The Redhawks collected their first road win and first Western Athletic Conference win of the season, while securing their first all-time series win over the Texans.

Senior Arianna Bilby was in a league of her own, posting 20 kills while hitting a season best .362 on 47 attempts and three errors to lead both teams on the night. Bilby's effort comes hot off the heels of her 21 kill and 13 dig double-double in Monday's loss to Utah Valley.

Paving the way for the Redhawk offense all evening was redshirt sophomore Elif Teksoy. The setter leveraged 30 assists to lead both the Redhawks and Texans through four sets.

On the defensive side, junior Marley Hardgrave and redshirt sophomore Yasemin Elmas were locked in up front, as Hardgrave led Seattle U with 4.0 blocks and Elmas added 3.0 blocks. Senior Katlyn Sipes bagged 18 digs to bolster the Seattle defense.

As a unit, the Redhawks posted 51 kills and eight aces, racking up 56 digs and seven blocks to Tarleton's 45 kills, seven aces and 54 digs.

The win is a Seattle U program first as Tarleton held the 5-0 series advantage heading into Thursday's contest. The victory also snapped the Redhawks' 0-2 start to the conference slate.

After a sluggish start, the Redhawks consistently rattled off a series of runs in the remaining three sets, keeping the Texans at an arm's length. In the second set, the Redhawks grabbed 15 kills, three aces and four blocks to tie the match 1-1. They led by as many as four, taking full advantage of Tarleton miscues before back-to-back kills from Merima Smajlovic and Bilby locked in the 25-20 second set win.

Seattle leaped out 7-2 to open the third set, forcing a Tarleton time out. The momentum remained in the Redhawks' favor before the Texans clawed their way back in the middle of the set. Tatum Chase bagged two crucial kills to swing the pendulum back in Seattle's favor. More Tarleton errors set up the Redhawks with set point and Bilby put the set away with a kill.

A tug of war final set went in the Redhawks' favor as back-to-back Bilby kills tied the set 22-22. An ace from Teksoy and a Tarleton error set up Seattle's match point and Bilby racked up kill number 20 to ensure the 3-1 match victory.

The Redhawks remain in Texas through the weekend, traveling to Abilene for a meeting with Abilene Christian on Saturday, Oct. 5.
