SEATTLE - Seattle U women's soccer rolled to their third straight victory, knocking off Hawai'i, 3-1, Thursday night at Championship Field. After falling behind by a goal, the Redhawks scored three unanswered to move to 2-0 at home on the season.
"We were not extremely sharp to start the game, but I was proud of how we rebounded," said head coach Julie Woodward. "It was nice going into halftime being up a goal and knowing we could play much better."
The Redhawks fell behind in the 19' when Hawai'i opened the scoring on the night. They would not trail for long however, as the combination of Kailee Wilson and Taylor Marks put the first tally on the board for the home team. It was the first goal for Taylor Marks on the season, and her first since the 2022 season.
Marla Gaudlitz would score what would eventually be the game-winner in the 40', off of a perfectly taken corner from Katie Piburn. Her in swinging delivery found the leaping head of Gaudlitz who directed it on frame and past the Rainbow Wahine goalkeeper. It was a team leading third goal on the season from Gaudlitz and a season first assist from Piburn.
Seattle U would get the dagger off the foot of Caroline Penner in the second half, as Hawai'i turned the ball over just outside of their own box and Penner punished them for it with her second goal on the campaign.
Defensively the Redhawks also kept their run of allowing one goal or fewer alive, as Kassidy Kirgan was called on to make four saves and the backline helped misdirect 17 total shots from Hawai'i.
"Our backline continues to be so tough and resilient," coach Woodward added. "I thought Shaye Douglas had a very solid game and it was fun to see Taylor score such a great goal."
