MORAGA, Calif. – Seattle University volleyball got 10 kills from Arianna Bilby, 14 digs from Katlyn Sipes and 19 assists from Anae Asuncion, but the individual performances were not enough in a 16-25, 17-25, 17-25 final at Saint Mary's Friday night at University Credit Union Pavilion.
The Redhawks (1-7) edged the Gaels (4-4) at the net, collecting 10 team blocks to the home team's eight, but they could not slow the attack of Genevieve Bane (17 kills) and Hannah Taylor (14 kills).
Merima Smajlovic added six kills for Seattle U while Asunsion and Tatum Chase had five kills apiece. Yasemin Elmas recorded four blocks, including two solos.
Seattle U returns to action on Saturday, traveling to San Francisco to face Air Force at 11 a.m. at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. The Redhawks will conclude action with a 2 p.m. first serve against the host San Francisco Dons.
