SEATTLE - The Seattle University cross country team will begin its 2024 season this Tuesday, September 3, with a dual meet against Washington. The two programs will race at Magnuson Park in Seattle. The women's race will begin at 9:00 am and the men's at 9:30 am.
The Redhawks will look to build on a strong 2023 season which saw eight new entries into the program's all-time top-20 times list. That included a new program record in the men's 8k by Yonas Sauers (23:52) and a new program record in the women's 6k by Azalea Groleau (20:47.9). Groleau, who will return to the Redhawks this year, was also named to the All-WAC Second Team. Also back this year are Lilianne Hargreaves, who put up new top-20 times in Seattle University's 6k and 8k last year, Khalid Hirsi, who finished second among Redhawks at the WAC Championships and third at NCAA West Regionals, and Lance Mason, who finished third among Redhawks at the WAC Championships.
This will also be cross country's first year under the tutelage of new head coach Jordana LeSavage. LeSavage, who was named head coach in August, has been with the Redhawks as an assistant coach with cross country and track & field since 2022. Since LeSavage joined Seattle University, the Redhawks have earned nine All-WAC honors and 16 school records.
This will be Seattle University's first of two races in Seattle this season, with the second coming on October 12 at Lower Woodland Park.
