ABILENE, TX - Seattle U baseball dropped their rubber match with Abilene Christian, 10-11, Saturday afternoon in Texas. Two separate Redhawk rallies saw them take late inning leads, but they just couldn't hold off the home team in the 2024 finale.
"Tough way to end the season," said head coach Donny Harrel post game. "The team battled right until the time ran out, which seems very strange in baseball, but I'm proud of this group for playing hard right through the last pitch of the season."
The Redhawks put up 10 runs on nine hits, with three of the hits and seven of the runs coming off the combination of Cameron Dayton and Sam Kane. Kane hit his team leading ninth home run of the season, a 3-run shot, in the top of the 6th. Dayton drove in four, with two courtesy of his own long ball also in the 6th.
Despite his best efforts at the plate, Dayton (4-4) was credited with the loss on the mound. He went 2 1/3 IP while giving up three earned.
Seven different seniors/grads saw time in their final game as Redhawks, with Dayton being joined by Cole Kleckner, Derek Gellos, Grant Heiser, Ethan Brown, Trevor Antonson and Ryne Hays. Kellen Carr, Riley Sinclair, Peter Chronowski, Kian Hogan, Kelan Scanlan, Luke Porter, and Sam Hanson also all made appearances over the final two weeks of the season to conclude their Seattle U careers.
"Very grateful for our graduates and seniors who were an absolute joy to coach all year and throughout their career," said Harell of his group.
The loss puts the Redhawks at 17-36 to conclude the 2024 season, and to 10-20 in Western Athletic Conference play. They fell short of qualifying for the WAC tournament this season.
