ABILENE, TX - Seattle U won their series opener with Abilene Christian, 7-5, in 11 innings on Thursday. After the Wildcats scored two in the ninth to force extra innings, Sam Kane would put the Redhawks back in front for good in the top of the 11th for the win.
Seattle U trailed by three runs for the first three innings of play before a Grant Heiser solo home run in the 4th sparked a Redhawk comeback. A combination of timely hitting and Wildcat errors helped SU build a two run advantage after the top of the 9th. ACU would then score a pair in their half of the inning to force extra innings.
After a scoreless 10th, Seattle U would once again take control in the 11th. Brandon Stinnett would be hit by and Cole Kleckner would follow with a single to put two on. Kane would then step up and hit a deep ball to right center, plating both Stinnett and Kleckner.
Cameron Dayton (3-2), who came on in the bottom of the 9th, was able to capture his third win of the season as he pitched two scoreless frames in extras. Dayton's five strikeouts also tied for his second highest total of the season.
The win moves the Redhawks to 17-34 on the season and to 10-18 in conference play. They have a chance to make it back-to-back series wins, and four-straight victories, in tomorrow's game two. First pitch from Abilene is scheduled for 2:05pm PT, with the game being broadcast live on ESPN+.
