It was back-to-back home runs in the 3rd inning that gave the Redhawks the lead, coming off the bats of Sam Kane and Mateo Zeppieri. Kane's was a 2-run shot, his team-leading sixth of the season. It also moved him into sole possession of 6th in single-season home runs in program history.

The Texans would slow the Redhawk offense after their outburst in the 3rd, keeping them off the board in the final six innings. They paired that with 9-unanswered runs of their own as they took the series opener.

Blake Smith (3-3) was credited with the loss, after going 4 2/3 IP and giving up five earned.

Seattle U now drops to 7-22 overall and to 3-6 in WAC play. They will look to even the series with Tarleton State tomorrow in game two. First pitch from the Tarleton Baseball Complex is scheduled for 1pm PT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
