BELLEVUE, WA - Seattle U baseball dropped their second game with Grand Canyon, 3-4, Saturday afternoon at Bannerwood Park. The Redhawks put together a 9th inning rally and had the tying run at third, but a ground out ended the game and saw SU drop the series.
Trevor Antonson drove in the first Redhawk run of the day off of a single in the 4th, at the time making it a 1-run game. Then trailing by three heading into the bottom of the 9th, it was doubles by Michael Tsoukalas and Derek Gellos that brought SU within one run. Gellos would eventually make his way over to third after Grant Heiser reached on a Lope error, but a ground out the next at bat sealed the victory for the visitors.
Despite the loss, Blake Smith was a standout on the day. The righty went seven innings while giving up just three earned on eight hits and struck out five Lopes. Cameron Dayton also had a solid outing, pitching two innings of relief while giving up just one run on one hit.
The loss drops the Redhawks to 12-30 on the season overall and to 6-14 in conference play. They will look avoid the sweep in game three vs Grand Canyon tomorrow, April 28, at Bannerwood. First pitch is scheduled for 11am PT.
