NACOGDOCHES, TX - Seattle U baseball swept their doubleheader with Stephen F. Austin, 12-6 and 12-4, Friday afternoon in Texas. The Redhawk offense erupted for 24-combined runs as they secured their first conference road series win of the season.
GAME 1:
Seattle U scored the first seven runs of the day and held off a late Lumberjack rally to secure the opening game of the day.
Eight different Redhawks recorded at least one hit, with Ryne Hays and Cameron Dayton both two as the offense racked up 10 hits. Dayton and Hays were joined by Cole Kleckner and Derek Gellos as Redhawks to also have multi RBI performances.
Luke Alwood (1-3) secured his first win of the season on the mound, going five innings while only giving up three earned. The sophomore also struck out five Lumberjacks on his way to the victory.
GAME 2:
Once again it was the Redhawks jumping out to an early lead, this time courtesy of a 5-run effort in the top of the 3rd. After the Lumberjacks scored 4-unanswered to make it a 1-run game, Seattle U would score seven straight to secure the doubleheader sweep and the series.
Game two had a pair of big offensive milestones attached to it as well. Brandon Stinnett hit hist first collegiate home run in the top of the 6th, and Trevor Antonson moved into a tie for 3rd all-time in career home runs in program history with his 3-run blast in the 7th. Antonson is now tied with former Redhawk Justin Mazzone with 16 career home runs.
Blake Smith (4-4) was credited with his team leading fourth win of the season, going six innings while giving up four runs on nine hits.
The Redhawks now move to 11-27 overall and to 5-12 in conference play after the back-to-back wins. They will look to complete their first conference series sweep since 2019 when they face SFA in game three tomorrow. First pitch from Nacogdoches is scheduled for 10am PT.
