Redhawks Drop Two in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Seattle U softball (18-26, 10-9 WAC) opened a three game series with California Baptist on Friday evening, dropping both contest by a scoreline of 0-2 and 3-4. Both Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contests took place at John C. Funk Stadium on the campus of California Baptist in Riverside, California.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Seattle U softball (18-26, 10-9 WAC) opened a three game series with California Baptist on Friday evening, dropping both contest by a scoreline of 0-2 and 3-4. Both Western Athletic Conference (WAC) contests took place at John C. Funk Stadium on the campus of California Baptist in Riverside, California. 

GAME ONE
Seattle U created a few opportunities to get on the board in the opener. Nicola Simpson smacked a one out double down the left field line in the second, while Taylor Fitch marked a ground rule double to right field to move her and a runner in scoring position in the fifth. Mikee Morris was the best Redhawks hitter at the plate, going three-for-four in the first game of the day.

Simpson provided the Redhawks with a solid start in the circle, allowing just two runs over six innings with four strikeouts. After allowing just two base runners over the first three innings, Simpson worked out of jams in the fourth and fifth to give a Redhawks the chance for a win.

GAME ONE SCORING
  • Sixth Inning: CBU scored two runs on four hits. 
GAME TWO
The Redhawks got out in front in the opening inning, scoring two runs on three hits. Sydney Frankenberger began the contest with a walk before Taylor Fitch singled through the left side three batters later. Nicola Simpson followed up with a single to center field to score a run, while Ava Sin doubled to left center for an RBI right after. Lily Garcia restored the Redhawks lead in the fourth, hitting an RBI single through the right side.

GAME TWO SCORING
  • First Inning: Nicola Simpson singled to center field for an RBI. Ava Sin doubled to left center for an RBI
  • Second Inning: California Baptist scored two runs on a home run. 
  • Fourth Inning: Lily Garcia singled through the right side for an RBI.CBU scored two runs on four hits. 
The Redhawks will close out the series with California Baptist on Saturday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. in Riverside.
