EL MACERO, Calif.– Seattle U men's golf heads to its final tournament before the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships on Friday, taking part in the El Macero Classic, hosted by UC Davis, in El Macero, California. The three-day, 54-hole event is scheduled to take place at El Macero Country Club from April 12-14 on the 7,127 yards course with a par of 72. All three days will feature starts at 8 a.m., with the Redhawks opening the event as one of four teams to tee off on 10 at 8 a.m.
The Redhawks will be competing against golfers from Fresno State, San Diego, Grand Canyon, Cal State Fullerton, Saint Mary's, Cal Poly, Pacific, CSUN, Nevada, Sacramento State, California Baptist, UC San Diego, UCSB, Gonzaga, Denver, Air Force and the hosts, UC Davis. The Redhawks' lineup with consist of Kevin Li, Liam Gill, John Morrow, Ben Ragland and Will Koch, while Jakob Balkovec will compete as an individual.
Seattle U is coming off a strong finish at the 10th annual Redhawk Invitational last week, taking third place out of 18 teams. Freshman Will Koch recorded his best overall finish as a collegiate golfer, posting a three-round total of seven-under 206 to take fourth place overall.
The Redhawks finished with their lowest overall score of the season at four-under 848, logging one of the top-five best finishes for a single round at four-under 280 during round two. Seattle U recorded the third most overall birdies made (55) as well as finishing fourth on the par fours (4.06 average, 10-over overall), fifth on the par threes (3.15, nine-over) and sixth on the par fives (4.82, eight-under). Ben Ragland also marked his career-best finish as a collegiate golfer, marking a three-under 210 (72-68-70) for seventh place overall that included his career-best round of three-under 68 in the final round on day one.
The Redhawks head to the El Macero Classic for the third straight year and sixth time overall. Seattle U won this event at the 2017 event, taking the team title by one stroke and posting two golfers in the top-10.
