TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Women's Golf at Bobcat Desert Classic

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Seattle U women's golf heads to its last tournament before postseason play, traveling to Goodyear, Arizona, for the Bobcat Desert Classic, hosted by Montana State. The three-day, 54-hole event will open play on Monday with the yardage of 6,180 yardage as well as par of 72.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Seattle U women's golf heads to its last tournament before postseason play, traveling to Goodyear, Arizona, for the Bobcat Desert Classic, hosted by Montana State. The three-day, 54-hole event will open play on Monday with the yardage of 6,180 yardage as well as par of 72.

The Redhawks will be competing against golfers from Weber State, Gonzaga, Eastern Washington, Portland State, Grand Canyon, Washington State, Montana, Boise State, Idaho, Utah Tech, Utah Valley, Wyoming, UTRGV, Idaho State, Cal Baptist and the hosts, Montana State. This will mark the third time the Redhawks has competed in the Bobcat Desert Classic, winning trophies in both of their previous appearances. Former Redhawk, Samantha Bruce, set a new program record low through 36 holes in route to her medalist performance at the 2021 event, while 2015-16 Redhawks squad grabbed the team title with three golfers finishing inside the top-10.

Last time out, Seattle U captured its first team title of the 2024 season, claiming a share of the Red Rocks Invitational via a team score of 17-over 881. Seattle U was one of four teams to post the single best round of the event, shooting a one-over 289 during the second round to put itself in strong position for the final round. The Redhawks tied for the best performance in the field of 20 teams on the par fives, shooting an average of 4.80 and a score of four-under. SU also tied for fifth best on the par threes (3.10, two-over) and made birdies (13) as well as tied for sixth on made pars (53). 

Rivekka Jumagulova earned Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Golfer of the Week honors for her performance at the Red Rocks Invitational. Jumagulova tied for eighth overall with a three-round total of one-over 217. The junior from Almaty, Kazakhstan, was important in the Redhawks tying for the best performance in the field of 20 teams on the par fives, tying for fifth overall with an average of 4.50 and a score of two-under. Jumagulova tied for eighth in made birdies (four), helping Seattle U to tie for fifth in made birdies with 13. This marked the junior's fourth career WAC weekly honor and fourth of her Seattle U career.
